Victor Corral

Dept. of Pharmacology 1st year PhD student

Victor is doing his first rotation of his Ph.D. in Dr. Nguyen’ lab. Victor graduated from the University of Minnesota (TC) in 2019 with a double major in Genetics, Cell Biology and Development (GCD) and Biochemistry. Besides loving doing research and taking classes at the U of M, some of Victor hobbies include exercising, listen to music, play video games, and spend time outdoors.

Zijun is an international student from China. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry at University of Minnesota. He likes music and writing scripts during his free time.

Ankita Kar Biswas

Researcher I

A doctor by profession, who wish to find the sustainable therapy for the humankind and invest career in research to find the cure to devastating diseases. My urge to play my part in research field led me to join Dr Nguyen’s Laboratory. In short, I am a person who love to accept new challenges and believe that if we determine to achieve something we can definitely achieve that. In my free time I love to paint, sing and play badminton.

Cassandra Leibson

Researcher I

I am originally from Centennial, Colorado and graduated from CU Boulder with a degree in Molecular, cellular, and developmental biology. Like most Coloradans, I love to snowboard, go camping, and hike through the mountains. I recently took up running and hope to get better at that. When I’m not outside, I enjoy playing video games, watching movies, and cooking up a good meal.

Maxwell Bannister

Undergraduate researcher, Augsburg University

Maxwell Bannister is an undergraduate student from Augsburg University who majors in biology and chemistry. Maxwell was intent on attending medical school, but a first-year experience with genetics research redirected him towards a career as a physician scientist. Maxwell’s current interests lie in the interaction between RPA and RNase H1, which has important implications in targeted cancer therapy. Beyond research, Maxwell is deeply involved with the MSP community and enjoys spending time with his corgi – named Yogi.

Youngjay Park

College of Liberal Arts, UMN-TC, Undergraduate CSTI PReP scholar

Youngjay is a career shifter who is aspiring to become a physician-scientist. He received a Bachelor of Education degree from Cheongju National University of Education in South Korea. His service as a naval officer in the high-risk waters off the coast of Somalia inspired him to pursue science and medicine. He enjoys evening walks with his wife and inline-skating around the Minneapolis parks.
